Warm Brie with Brown Sugar and Pecans

I can't believe it's already December. This year has just flown by! Although, I seem to say that every year! :-) Holiday parties are in full swing. I am sure at some point this month you will be having a holiday get together with friends and/or family. Or you will be asked to bring a dish to a party. If you are in need of a unique and delicious appetizer, you're in luck! This warm brie spread is absolutely divine. The brown sugar and pecans on top makes the brie shine! I got the recipe from a dear friend at church. After getting permission from her, she is excited to see it appear on the blog! Thanks, Tracy! I've made this several different ways. You'll see my notes in the recipe below. Serve the brie with crackers or apple slices. This appetizer is sure to be the talk of the party! Hoot Rating: 5!
Warm Brie with Brown Sugar and Pecans
Recipe slightly adapted from a friend, Tracy.
1 round wheel of brie (found near the deli department)
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon chocolate extract
1/3 cup chopped pecans (pictured above are chopped candied pecans); omit if you don't like nuts.

1) In a small bowl mix together brown sugar, chocolate extract, and pecans.
2) On the platter you plan on serving the brie on, place the brie in the center of the platter. Do not cut the brie. Microwave the brie in 1 minute increments. Check the brie after each minute. You want the brie to be soft in all areas and just beginning to ooze out. :-) Depending on the size of your brie, you will microwave it up to 3 minutes.
3) Remove brie from the microwave. Put your brown sugar mixture bowl in and microwave for approximately 20 seconds. Stir the mixture. It should be thick and well combined. Microwave an additional 15 seconds if needed.
4) Pour brown sugar mixture on top of brie. Serve with crackers and/or apple slices.
